Posted by N4AK: Paul, I am currently working on a Pacemaker. I am not an expert on old SSB rigs so I am trying to get the carrier suppressed. Just beginning the process. The unit I have ....had been converted to two 6146's in final! I have no documentation. Anyway, I am restoring unit to only 1 final tube as per original. I have audio on AM....but haven't scopped it yet. Have audio on SSB, but don't think I am doing much with suppressing carrier. Just got the rig fired up for final testing and alignment. Any short cuts or mine fields to watch out for? I do have a couple of junker units for parts. Glenn N4AK.

Ok, well great to convert back to one tube, it will run cooler and also with this rig you just dont need the two 6146's. Its great to run with and amp....anyway check all of the loading caps for cracks and such, and if you have a cap checker do that, tubes are also in the VFO, and the switch inside the VFO at the bottom...make sure that has been cleaned and serviced...scrape and test all the tubes and use deoxit spray on all the pins and skockets....Im trying to give you all the things that I did....also check for loose grounds on switches..and when you turn it on please place the switch in standby mode and then turn it on using a power strip. This will not give you full current on the switch, I dont know what they were thinking of but the switch could have been laid out just a little differant HI HI....well this is about it for all of the things that I found, dont run a lot of plate current, and watch the grid as well, very low grid is best for sound and signal reports, and you will not burn up the tube and transformer....good luck sorry it took so long to get back to you....sincerly Paul W7PAU
